SU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, Preview

The 2012 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships will open in Colorado Springs, USA, on February 9. Colorado Springs hosted the ISU Four Continents Championships twice before in 2006 and 2007. 100skaters from 17 ISU members will compete at the Championships. There are no Preliminary rounds. All skaters/couples will compete in the Short Program/Short Dance. Competitors placed in the top 24 in Single Skating qualify for Free Skating/Free Dance.
Overview of the top contenders
The Ice Dance competition is highlighted by the rivalry of reigning World Champions Meryl Davis/Charlie White (USA) and reigning Olympic Champions Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir (CAN). Davis/White won the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December with a seasons best of 188.55 points ahead of their Canadian arch rivals who scored as seasons best of 183.34 points. Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje (CAN/seasons best 166.07) and reigning World bronze medalists Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani (USA/ seasons best 160.55 points) are competing for a spot on the podium as well. Also competing are Alexandra Paul/Mitchell Islam (CAN), Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue (USA) and Xiaoyang Yu/Chen Wang (CHN).
Reigning World Champion Patrick Chan (CAN) leads the Men's at the ISU Four Continents Championships 2012. The Grand Prix Final Champion comes with a seasons best of 260.30 points to Colorado Springs. He will meet another challenge from 2010 World Champion Daisuke Takahashi (JPN), who finished second to him in the Grand Prix Final in December (seasons best 259.75 points). Nan Song (CHN/seasons best 226.75 points), Adam Rippon (USA/seasons best 217.97 points), Denis Ten (seasons best 212.39 points) and Ross Miner (USA/seasons best 212.36 points) and are hoping for a podium finish as well. Others to watch include Tatsuki Machida (JPN), Richard Dornbush (USA) and Kevin Reynolds (CAN).
Two-time World Champion Mao Asada (JPN) headlines the Ladies event. Asada posted a seasons best of 184.19 at the NHK Trophy. The challenge should come from freshly crowned U.S. Champion Ashley Wagner (seasons best 165.65), 2010 World Junior Champion Kanako Murakami (JPN/seasons best 161.31 points) and Haruka Imai (JPN/seasons best 154.76 points). Other contenders are Agnes Zawadzki (USA), Kexin Zhang (CHN), Amelie Lacoste (CAN), Cynthia Phaneuf (CAN) and Caroline Zhang (USA).
In the Pairs event, competition promises to be tough. Two-time and reigning World Junior Champions Wenjing Sui/Cong Han (CHN) are debuting at the Four Continents Championships and are eyeing the top of the podium (seasons best 180.82 points). The new Canadian Champions and defending Four Continents silver medalists Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford (seasons best of 176.62) and the new U.S. Champions Caydee Denney/John Coughlin (seasons best 175.40 points) are ready to challenge the Chinese and so are Narumi Takashi/Mervin Tran (JPN/seasons best 172.09). Other competitors include 2012 Four Continents bronze medalists Paige Lawrence/Rudi Swiegers (CAN), Jessica Dube/Sebastien Wolfe (CAN), Amanda Evora/Mark Ladwig and Mary Beth Marley/Rockne Brubaker (USA).
Please note that for the seasonal best total scores only the ISU Grand Prix competitions (senior and junior) have been taken into consideration, not other international competitions or National Championships.

科罗拉多当地时间2月9日,2012年花滑四大洲锦标赛将正式拉开帷幕,而在当天,将率先迎来男单短节目争夺。由于是世锦赛前最后一次国际性赛事,众多名将都来到现场。 一个是世锦赛卫冕冠军,加拿大华裔选手,当今最高分获得者陈伟群,一个是2010年世锦赛男单桂冠得主,日本名将高桥大辅,两人都被看做是此次比赛金牌最有力的争夺者。此外,作为当今男单花滑最高水平的代表,两人此次碰撞似乎也是世锦赛的一次预演。 为了准备比赛,高桥大辅周二抵达科罗拉多并开始了赛前训练。“这是我第一次在高海拔地区进行比赛,我不知道会怎样,但我想进行更多的训练。”为了能在比赛中击败世锦赛冠军陈伟群,高桥打算在短节目和自由滑中都用上四周跳。 “我听说高海拔能够让四周跳变得更容易,因为你可以跳得更高,但这是我第一次,所以我直到我尝试后,才会知道结果。” 高桥大辅曾经在2010年获得过世锦赛男单冠军,前不久的日本锦标赛中,他第五次获得全国冠军,并在短节目中创造了96.05的世界最高分。虽然根据规定,全国比赛的分数一般不会得到国际滑联的官方认定,但该成绩超过了陈伟群创造的短节目最高分3.03分。当然,作为世锦赛卫冕冠军,陈伟群实力不俗,在大奖赛总决赛中,他以11分的优势战胜高桥大辅获得冠军。 说到两人的再次对决,高桥大辅坦言并不在乎,他只会将精力放在自己的表演上,希望比全锦赛时有所提高。“其实说实话,在这里跟谁一起比赛并不重要,我只是希望能够很好的表现我的节目木,这只是世锦赛之前一次比赛,一次很好的机会,我希望自己能比全国赛的时候做得更好,在世界观众面前有个表现自己的舞台。” 此次四大洲花滑赛男单短节目项目将在北京时间2月10日09:45进行,自由滑则于2月11日10:00开始。除了陈伟群和高桥大辅外,中国的宋楠,美国的里篷,哈萨克斯坦的丹尼斯-滕同样有希望能够登上最后的领奖台。(来源:搜狐体育)
