Kostner wins the first "Sonjastatuetten" - the Sonja Henie Trophy
, the Norwegian federation's official magazine, has reported that Italian Carolina Kostner is the winner of the first "Sonjastatuetten".
The award is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Norwegian skater Sonja Henie's birth in April 1912.
Carolina has been awarded for her outstanding performance at Worlds in Nice, where with a flawless triple performance, she advanced from third to win the first World Title for Italy. Carolina Kostner was the first European skater to win both Euros and Worlds in a season since Russian Irina Slutskaya in 2005. Carolina had an outstanding season in 2011/12, ending it at the top of the ISU world rankings.
Carolina Kostner will receive a statuette of Sonja Henie (1912-1969), created by sculptor Per Ung. The original statue is located outside the Frogner Stadium in Oslo, which was Sonja Henie home and the rink where she won her first World Title in 1927.
