We’ve received so many lovely notes and comments from people since we announced our decision last week, and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support.
First though, we want to send our thoughts and best wishes to the people in Japan who are dealing with so much right at the moment. We have loved skating and competing in Japan, and always enjoyed meeting the wonderful and knowledgeable fans there. We want you to know how much you mean to us, and wish everyone the best during a very difficult time.
We also want the fans around the world to know that we have loved competing and performing in front of you. Every time we stepped on the ice, we knew people were pulling for us and cheering us on. It really does make a difference to be able to skate in front of the crowds and audiences who are such a big part of our sport. Thank you for the photographs, flowers, gifts and kind encouragement over the years.
We also wanted to say thank you to the many people who have been there for us throughout our early development, and our nine years of skating together.
Thank you to everyone at Skate Canada, from our own skating clubs to the skating sections to the people we talk to regularly at the national office for guiding us. Whenever we needed financial support, emotional guidance, medical assistance or career advice, there was always someone who could help us and talk us through situations. We had so many people who travelled with us as team leaders, or who helped out at competitions as volunteers. The entire ‘skating family’ as it’s called has been a wall of support that we always knew was right behind us.
To our coaches, Annie Barabé, Sophie Richard, Yvan Desjardins and Doug Ladret – you were the ones putting in those long hours with us, leaving your families to travel with us to competitions, and pushing us to be the best pair team we could be. Thank you for your dedication and input into our lives. To David Wilson, who put the magic into so many of our programs, thank you for your brilliant choreography over the years.
The financial support from many different areas has been critical to us. Our sponsor, Cascades, came alongside us four years ago and has been terrific to work with. And Skate Canada’s national sponsors have also been a big asset to us. The government funding, from Sport Canada and Own the Podium, the province of Quebec, Québec, and Ontario’s Quest for Gold program was really critical to helping us train and prepare. And a huge thank you to the Fédération de Patinage Artistique du Québec who supported us financially and in so many other ways as well.
And to our families – the two simple words “thank you” seem almost too small to capture what you have given to both of us. We value your unconditional love, your unwavering support and the sacrifices you made to help us live out our skating dreams.

D/D THE WAY WE WERE 有点儿宿命的意思
