10 Moments you might have missed at the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships

It’s been a month since London, Ontario, Canada hosted the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. We took a look back at some of the memorable moments that happened off the ice, and here they are:

1. Right before Denis Ten’s number in the Gala, Kurt Browning officially handed over his Singing in the Rain program to Ten, saying ‘”It’s all yours now”.

2. Team Canada smiling for photos with aspiring figure skater Her Royal Highness, Princess Alexandra of Hanover.

3. Russian ice dancer and bronze medalist Dmitri Soloviev showing up late for the ice dance victory presentation at Skate Canada House after getting lost in London! Partner Ekaterina Bobrova apologized for his lateness but Dmitri made up for it by jumping on stage mid-presentation and had the crowd in stitches.4. The Budweiser Gardens presenting three-time world champion Patrick Chan with an official London Knights jersey!

5. Belarusian ice dancers Viktoria Kavaliova and Yurii Bieliaiev arrived in London without their skates after an airline mishap but luckily Paul Moir (Scott Moir’s uncle) was immediately on the hunt to find skates for the team. He did, and they skated to a standing ovation in the short dance.

6. Big time Philadelphia Flyers fan Viktor Pfeifer (men’s) of Austria received a gift pack from the Global Spectrum staff which manages both the Budweiser Gardens and the Wells Fargo Center where the Flyers play, after donning the team’s logo during his warm-up.

7. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne hanging out with Olympic bronze medalist Joannie Rochette at the Light Up London festival. Premier Wynne even visited Olympic Champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’s practice, at the Western Fair Sports Centre (practice rink).

8. Fashion journalist and designer Jeanne Beker at the gallery opening of her good friend Toller Cranston.

9. Athlete Ambassador Joannie Rochette and world champion Jeff Buttle entertaining the crowd in ‘franglais’ on the Hot Seat at Skate Canada House.

10. The Korean delegation being more than impressed with Amabile Choir’s rendition of their national anthem, Aegukga, after Yuna Kim won the gold medal in ladies.
