The Gold medal went to Shoma UNO (JPN), Jordan BAUTH (USA) and couple Eugenia TKACHENKA (BLR) and Yuri GULITSKI (BLR) in Team 4.
Eveliina VILJANEN (FIN), Yaroslav PANIOT (UKR) and Ice Dancers Maria SIMONOVA (RUS) and Dmitri DRAGUN (RUS) claimed Silver in Team 2.
Team 6, consisting of So Youn PARK (KOR), Alexander LYAN (KAZ) and French couple Estelle ELIZABETH and Romain LE GAC, claimed Bronze.
UNO was quick to pay tribute to his teammates.
“I was really focusing on bringing a good result for my team, but I could not really lift my legs,” he said.
“I am extremely pleased to win Gold in the team event, I will go home with a pleasant feeling. I feel extremely grateful to my teammates [for this victory].”
BAUTH was equally thrilled with a place on top of the podium.
“It is amazing [to win Gold],” she said. “I cannot believe this is happening right now. This event was a really good experience.”
She was just as positive about her whole Innsbruck 2012 experience.
“It’s been very cool," she said. "I have got so many friends from different countries now. We all have something in common even if we come from different countries.”
With the Bronze medal around his neck, LE GAC praised the Mixed-NOC Team event.
“It was a very good idea," he said. "I hadn’t talked to the other skaters before, now there is friendship, it is very interesting.”
Even those skaters not lucky enough to win medals were delighted to be involved in the new format.
“In this event you skate for the team as well as for yourself,” Timofei NOVAIKIN (FRA) said. “It is more fun to compete in a team, and there is less pressure.”
Gabriele MINCHIO (ITA), coach of Carlo Vittorio PALERMO (ITA) agreed.
“I think this event makes a lot of sense,” he said. “Figure Skating is a very individual sport, to compete in a team makes the skaters feel responsible to their team and not only to themselves.”
