There were a few other elements in the program, choreographed by David Wilson to Gershwin's "Piano Concerto in F Major," could have been better.
"Her spiral sequence was Level 3 instead of Level 4," Orser said. "One of her spins was Level 3. It's not always obvious during the performance. I watched the tape to find out why, what [positions] she needed to hold longer."
The tweaking doesn't stop there. Wilson, who like Orser makes his primary professional home at Toronto's Cricket Skating and Curling Club, never stops tinkering with Kim's programs.
"David finished the programs [the Gershwin free, and a short to James Bond movie themes] in July and August, but that's just the start for him. Everyday he works on them a little. Sometimes it's just the eyes, the face [expressions]. As I say, we don't take it lightly."
Orser acknowledged that after Paris, the triple flip is their biggest concern. The usually spot-on skater missed the jump in a short program run-through Thursday afternoon.
"It was strange, that triple flip not happening in Paris," he said. "That's something that never happens, even in practice. It was the timing of the three-turn [entrance].
"Since then, at home, she's been getting kind of angry at the triple flip. There have been a few mini-meltdowns. But now everything's back to normal, everything is cool."
