Tatiana Tarasova, who worked with American skater Sasha Cohen for 18 months, notified SE correspondent Elena Vajcehovskaya yesterday about the end of partnership and her possible return to Russia:
- Unfortunately, my health doesn't allow me to keep working in America, Tarasova said. I am glad that my work with Sasha was fruitful and that the skater had four victories this season, and naturally, I wish her the best. We were both satisfied with the way our partnership was developing. However, it wouldn't be fair to keep coaching Sasha knowing that it won't be a full value work.
This sudden decision was preceded by a long conversation between Tarasova, Cohen, and her mom Galina. All three of them came to the conclusion that the further work doesn't seem to be possible the way it was going. Tarasova recommended a famous American expert Robin Wagner as a new coach for the skater. Wagner brough Sarah Hughes to the victory at 2002 Olymipcs.
A week ago, Tarasova was planning to accompany Cohen at USA Nationals at the beginning of January, sacrificing a visit to Russian Nationals in St. Petersburg. However, yesterday she announced that she will be back in Moscow before New Year's Eve, and in the first days of January she will go to St. Petersburg with her Russian students Andrei Griazev and ice dancers Svetlana Kulikova and Vitaly Novikov.
