RIPPON ANNOUNCES COACHING CHANGE
(9/11/12) - Adam Rippon, the reigning U.S. silver medalist, announced today he has commenced training with Olympic and World coach Rafael Arutyunyan in Lake Arrowhead, Calif. Last season, he trained with Jason Dungjen and Yuka Sato in Detroit.
"After the World Championships, I had time to reflect on the season and came to the conclusion that I needed to take a different approach," Rippon said. "Over the summer, I received the suggestion to travel to Lake Arrowhead and work with Rafael. I'm confident the move will be a positive one as I move forward in my career.
"I am very grateful to Jason and Yuka for their unconditional support and encouragement which brought me to my first U.S. medal at the senior level."
Arutyunyan, a former national competitor for the Soviet Union, has worked with Mao Asada, Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen, Sergei Voronov, Jeffrey Buttle and others.
Rippon is scheduled to compete in two ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series events this fall, Cup of China and NHK Trophy, before competing at the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships in January.
Rippon is the only man to win back-to-back World Junior titles (2008-09) and is the 2008 U.S. junior champion and the 2010 Four Continents champion. He has previously worked with coaches Brian Orser and Nikoli Morozov.
