Figure skater Rippon selling outfits in support of online skating store's cause

Figure skater Adam Rippon is selling four of his Junior and Novice outfits from the 2005-2006 and 2007-2008 competition season on MySkatingMall.com,an online marketplace for skaters to buy and sell new and gently-used ice skating items and designate a portion of their proceeds to their favorite skating club or cause.

Rippon, the 2008 and 2009 World Junior Champion and the 2010 Four Continents Champion, is donating his competition outfits in support of MySkatingMall.com’s goal to raise $1,000 for the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund by February 17, 2010.

Figure skating fans may recognize this special date as the national premiere of RISE, a figure skating documentary chronicling U.S. Figure Skating’s triumphs and tragedies, including the story of the 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating Team whose members perished in a plane crash on their way to the World Championships in Prague.

“Adam’s mom, Kelly, included a short note with the skating outfits: ‘Thank you, and best of luck with this worthy endeavor,’” said figure skater Ryan Jahnke, the 2003 U.S. Figure Skating Championships Bronze Medalist and creative force behind MySkatingMall.com.

Rippon’s Novice short and long program outfits, which he wore at the 2005 U.S. Figure Skating Championships where he was crowned Novice Men’s Silver Medalist, are currently listed for $199.00 each.

His 2007 Junior competition outfits—a black and red short program outfit and navy blue long program outfit—are listed for $250.00 and $249.00 respectively.  

“The mission of MySkatingMall.com is to support the skating community. We would like to challenge other skaters to follow Adam’s lead by selling their gently used skating dresses, skating outfits, and skating practice apparel on MySkatingMall.com,” adds Jahnke. “You don’t have to be an elite skater to participate! Simply list your items and choose for 87.5% of the sale price to be given to the U.S. Memorial Fund.”
