The International Skating Union (ISU) announced athlete selections for the 2013 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, which begins Oct. 18-20, with 2013 Hilton HHonors Skate America at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. Skate America will feature a deep field of national, World and Olympic champions and may serve as a preview to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, which will be held in Sochi, Russia, in February. Here is the list of competitors:
Men Of the nine men announced to compete at Skate America, seven have won national titles, six own World medals, three are former World champions and two stood on the podium at the Olympics.

Ladies Headlining the ladies event are two-time reigning U.S. champion Ashley Wagner and two-time World champion and reigning Olympic silver medalist Mao Asada of Japan. Asada and Wagner, who finished third and fifth respectively at last year’s World Championships, competed against each other last in the U.S. at the 2012 Four Continents Championships with Wagner edging Asada for the title.

Pairs Russia’s Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov went undefeated in the 2012-13 season en route to winning their first World title in March. They will look to continue their success at Skate America where they are the reigning champions. They headline a field that includes the fourth-place finishers from last year’s World Championships, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch of Canada, and each of the last two U.S. champions. Ice Dancing Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White had a perfect season last year culminating in winning their second World title. The duo, which trains in nearby Canton, Mich., will look to earn gold at Skate America for the fourth straight year. Later in the season, they will ultimately look to improve upon their silver medal finish at the 2010 Olympics.
