ICE DANCERS ANNOUNCE RETURNS 2002 Olympic bronze medallists Barbara Fusar-Poli & Maurizio Margaglio of Italy, who won the World ice dance title in 2001, are planning to compete at the 2006 Turin Olympics in their home country. After their retirement following the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, the couple appeared in shows and worked together for the Italian Olympic Committee. Fusar-Poli married Diego Cattani, a short track speed skating coach, in 2000 and gave birth to a daughter, Giorgia, in June 2004. Recently, she has coached Alessia Aureli & Andrea Vaturi, an Italian ice dance couple that placed 24th at the 2005 Worlds in Moscow. In addition to his duties with the Olympic Committee, Margaglio passed the necessary tests to become an ice dance specialist for the new ISU judging system. The two plan to train with Roberto Pelizzola, who also coaches current Italian ice dance champions Federica Faiella & Massimo Scali, who were ninth at the Moscow Worlds. Italy has two ice dance spots for the Turin Games.
Rita Drobiasko & Povilas Vanagas, the Lithuanian husband-and-wife dance team who won the 2000 World bronze medal, announced they would return for the 2005-2006 season with the hope of representing Lithuania at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy. This would be the couple's fifth consecutive Olympics.
Drobiazko & Vanagas will train under Elena Maslennikova, who coached them earlier in their career. (At the time of their initial retirement in 2002, ElenaTchaikovskaya coached them). In order for Lithuania to send a dance team to the Olympics, the couple will compete at the 2005 Karl Shaefer Memorial in Vienna, Austria, in October to try to win a spot. They may also compete in the Grand Prix Series this fall, but must wait for an invitation from the ISU. 这个应该是比较正式的消息了 |
