我早就无所谓排名了。有很多很有个性的选手都不是金榜提名的,很多时候的确是技术没那么超级,但是我宁愿看他们。谢天谢地我只是个普通观众,没有按照客观标准进行裁判的责任。

关于Domnina/Shabalin退出世锦赛的详细报道。

Domnina, Shabalin out of world championships
Injury forces Russian ice dance pair to withdraw

By Linda Przygodski
(03/12/2008) - That elusive worlds gold medal for Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto just became much more attainable.

In a prepared statement, Russian Figure Skating President Valentin Piseev said that European ice dance champions Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin will not compete in this month's 2008 ISU World Figure Skating Championships.

"My knee is still hurting," Shabalin told the Russian news agency "Allsport" over the phone. "As much as I tried to divert my thoughts from that, you still can't betray your body. After Europeans, I actively took care of rehabilitation and treated my knee. I spent two weeks in a clinic near Moscow where I underwent different and unusual therapies -- kryotherapy -- healing through cold, Tibetan massage. In addition to that, I went to the CITO [clinic] every two days, where I underwent therapy with homoeopathic medication. However, the situation didn't significantly improve."

Earlier this season at Russian nationals, the duo sat out due to Shabalin's original knee injury. According to Piseev, Shabalin re-injured his left knee during a training session last week. Doctors advised the Russian ice dancer that he should not compete in worlds, as to not aggravate the injury any further.

Shabalin had his first meniscus surgery on his left knee after he and Shabalin won gold at the ISU Grand Prix Final in December. The team was back on the ice in January to prepare for the 2008 European Championships, where they were healthy enough to win gold and solidify their place as the leading contenders for the top spot at the world championships. But even in Croatia, the injury had not gone away.

"I didn't expect it to be as bad as it was," the 26-year-old ice dancer revealed after the free dance at Europeans. "I thought the doctors would give me painkillers, and I wouldn't feel anything. But they couldn't give me so strong painkillers. Each practice was a torture. Sometimes I didn't think I would have enough strength."

In a statement released to the press on Wednesday, the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FSFR) stated, "During practice, Maxim Shabalin twisted his leg and felt acute pain in his knee, which was operated [on] in December. After careful examination on March 11 by Professor Anatoly Orletskiy [of the Central Institute of Trauma and Orthopedy], the partial injury of the left knee inner-side ligaments was diagnosed.

"Maxim was recommended to eliminate physical activity for two weeks and prescribed a course of rehabilitation therapy. Final decision regarding the course of treatment will be determined after consultations with the specialists, including the head of CITO, Sergey Mironov.

"Unfortunately, withdrawal of Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin from participation in the World Figure Skating Championships will not allow the Russian skaters to compete for gold. The FSFR President expressed his hopes that Maxim will successfully overcome his injury consequences and will compete at the highest level at the future championships and 2010 Olympic Games."

In place of the two-time Russian national champions, Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev will head to the world championships in Sweden.

Domnina and Shabalin became an ice dancing team in May 2002. In their first season together, they won every junior-level competition they entered, including the 2002 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final and the 2003 World Junior Championships.

They were ninth at the 2006 Olympics and, following the retirement of Olympic champions Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov, had a breakthrough season in 2006-2007, placing second at Europeans and fifth at worlds. This season, their personal-best total of 207.14 earned at the Europeans was the best score by any Russian team and the second-highest ice dancing score of the year.

Khokhlova, Novitski hope to impress at worldsTeam now leading Russian duo after Shabalin's injury

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080312&content_id=45627&vkey=ice_news

For this year, the Muscovites already fulfilled one goal by medaling at Europeans. Now they hope to continue their ascent on the world stage. Aside from Delobel and Schoenfelder and U.S. champions Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, Khokhlova and Novitski will have to contend with two more teams that beat them at last year's worlds -- Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada and Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the U.S.  "I think we are able to compete with [those teams] at the same level," Khokhlova said. "They are strong and worthy competitors. ... But we're now also putting a lot of emphasis on the technical side of our programs. Our step sequences are really focusing on the technique this year. I think if we skate clean, then we can, with our lifts and spins, compete with them on the same level."

Since their bronze-medal performance at Europeans, the couple has been working hard at home, honing their "Argentine Tango" compulsory dance and fine-tuning their original and free dances.

"Fortunately, they have been healthy," coach Alexander Svinin explained to icenetwork.com. "Everything is going well. After Europeans, we changed the steps in the side-by-side footwork in the original dance a bit to show the edges more clearly. We've worked on the elements, on the artistry and on the compulsory dance."

"Our preparation went well, and we've worked a lot on the compulsory dance," Novitski added. "We changed some steps in the side-by-side [part of] the original dance but didn't make any other changes to our programs. The goal we set for worlds is the same as usual -- we want to show our very best."

It's mostly thanks to their spectacular free dance that the Russians drew so much attention this year. It is probably the most exciting free dance of the season. Skating to "Night on Bald Mountain" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King," they portray a witch and a demon wildly celebrating Walpurgis Night, and these roles suit them perfectly. The red-headed Khokhlova is a dynamo on ice. Her amazing flexibility allows her to bend her body into all kinds of positions for their acrobatic lifts and spins. Novitski is much calmer, while still being very expressive, and he complements his partner perfectly with his solid technique.

The 22-year-old Khokhlova and 26-year-old Novitski have been skating together since October 2001. Their first breakthrough season came in 2006, when they made it Europeans, worlds and the Olympics. "To be honest, I even now don't completely realize what happened at the Olympics. ... When we got there as the third team, we were just happy. Only now we start to realize that it was cool to be there and that we made it," Khokhlova explained. Before they made it to Turin, the team had to fight for their place in the Russian ranks and were held back by some intrigues that kept Tatiana Tarasova's students, Svetlana Kulikova and Vitali Novikov, ahead of them until that pair split up and retired in 2005.

Medals chances for Virtue and Moir increase with withdrawal of Russians

Chances of Canadian champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir winning medals at the world figure skating champions in Goteborg, Sweden, next week were greatly enhanced with the announcement out of Moscow that the favourites for gold, Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, have withdrawn.

Domnina reinjured in practice earlier this week the left knee on which she had surgery in December and Russian federation head Valentin Piseyev conceded on Wednesday that they would be unable to compete in Goteborg.

"It's too bad," Moir said during a Skate Canada conference call Wednesday. "It's nice to go to a world championship when everybody is healthy and you can compete against the best.

"At the same time, we're excited about the opportunity that lies ahead of us."

At the 2007 world championships in Tokyo, Albena Denova and Maxim Staviski of Bulgaria won gold, Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon of Montreal won silver, Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto of the United States won bronze and Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder of France finished fourth. Domnina and Shabalin were fifth and Virtue and Moir were sixth.

The top two couples subsequently dropped out.

Domnina and Shabalin had put together a perfect season. They won the Grand Prix Final in December and the European title in January and were everybody's pick to win their first senior world title.

Virtue, 18, of London, Ont., and Moir, 20, of Ilderton, Ont., have been hard at work at the ice dancing school to which they belong in Canton, Mich., in the four weeks since winning the Four Continents meet in South Korea.

"It was so exciting for us," Virtue said of that win. "We tried to attack every element.

"It was a competition not to hold anything back. It was great to come out on top."

They've focused their attention on the Argentine Polka that will be the compulsory that will kick off the 2008 world championships on Tuesday. Throughout the season, they've upgraded their lifts and their speed.

"We want to continue to get faster and stronger," says Moir. "We've been making everything stronger and trying to perfect everything going into worlds."

They fly from Toronto on Friday night, arriving in Sweden on Saturday, and they participate in their first practice there on Sunday.

Now that they've suddenly been thrust into medal contention, they'll receive more attention upon arriving.

"We'll have to rely on previous experiences in terms of maintaining our composure once competition begins," says Virtue. "Our coaches do a great job of keeping us grounded and keeping our heads in the game."

They are coached by Igor Shpilband and Marina Zoueva in Canton.

"We're always competing to win," Virtue replied when asked about the chance to be on the podium in Goteborg. "Every team is.

"That's what makes it exciting. The podium is a goal of ours. We think we're ready."

They've shot up the rankings quickly since winning the world junior title in 2006.

"We're really thankful for this new (judging) system," said Moir. "We're proving you don't have to wait around.

"The skating is being rewarded."
