“Yuna Kim has donated her victory prize money from the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships to UNICEF. UNICEF Korea said on 29th that Yuna donated the entire prize money of $45,000 through Unicef Korea and the donation money will be used for children with disabilities.
Yuna donated her silver prize money of $27,000 from the 2011 World Champioships to children affected by the Japanese earthquake in May 2011.
“through the activities of UNICEF goodwill ambassador, I’ve realized that there is the high wall of prejudice against people with disability and a lot of help needed for them. I’d like to continue to support children with disabilities to help them live a healthy and happy life.” Yuna sent a message via Unicef.
Yuna has made additional donations to the work of UNICEF and she will appear in a special video to urge continued support for the children in Syria suffering in war.
Yuna also donated over $83,000 to Haiti earthquake victims in January 2010 and donated her ‘Proud Korean Award’ money of $10,000 from the Korean American Leadership Foundation. Since 2010, she has been active in helping children in need. She has doanted about $50,000 every year to help children of families without parents, children with incurable diseases.”
