SPEED, SPEED, and SPEED.
I'm certainly no expert but from all the skating I've watched and the tiny bit of skating I've done myself, I gather that losing speed is losing everything in this jump. You need the momentum to complete the jump, and when you're setting up for it, the right blade tends to scratch the ice, causing you to lose quite some speed. What's so utterly disgusting about the jump is if you get on a very deep outside edge (so the blade won't scratch), then the legs get awfully twisted.
Also, the jump is quite harmful to the hip (remember Tara?), so it's probably not a good idea to practice too many a day.
Michelle had problems with her triple loop in 2000 (she fell on that move in the Nationals LP). IIRC, at Worlds that year, she started doing that jump first.
