I have not seen his program this year. It is difficult to compare one performance with another at 2 different competitions. The component score cannot be viewed in absolute value. It has similarity to the "ordinal" (ie, comparative) nature of the previous 6.0 system (the "presentation score") as a tool for placement among skaters at the same competition. Performance A at Competition 1 cannot be directly compared in scores to Performance B at Competition 2.
Lyzacek's performance was awful at Campbell's Classics, but much improved at Skate America. Anyone can have a bad performance at a particular competition, but may still be the best on that evening because everyone else also did poorly.
Under the old system, 6.0 also did not mean perfect, and 6.0 at 1 competition may not mean the same level of good performance in another.
