2006 Olympic silver medalist and 2006 U.S. champion Sasha Cohen announced today that she will not defend her title at the 2007 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Spokane, Washington.
Cohen said she is not retiring but taking a time-out for the next couple of years. The training and preparation for the Torino Olympics took their toll, according to Cohen.
“These past few years have been incredibly intense and demanding, so I need a little down time from competing,” Cohen said.
“I have every intention of competing in future competitions. My major goals are the 2009 Worlds in Los Angeles and the 2010 Vancouver Olympics,” she stated. “I love the thrill that competition brings and I’m not ready to give that up. But I’m the type of person who is all or nothing. When I train and compete, it’s my life. I can’t be there just to be there. These past few months, I’ve really enjoyed simply skating for the love of it.”
Cohen had her best competitive year in her career in 2006. After winning the U.S. title, she claimed silver at the Olympic Games and bronze medal at the subsequent World Championships.
The 22 year-old Californian has been exploring other avenues the past eight months including taking acting classes. Her first film “Moondance Alexander” is expected out next year. She has a cameo role in “Blades of Glory,” starring Will Ferrell and recently appeared on CSI:NY.
“I have competed in two Olympics, and there’s nothing that thrilling,” Cohen said. “So, I know I want to be in Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics.”

在过去的8个月里，Cohen已在其他领域开拓她的事业，包括上表演班。她参演的第一部电影“Moondance Alexander”将于明年上映。她已在“Blades of Glory”里饰演了Will Ferrell一角，此片已播出。
最后，Cohen表示她将肯定会参加2010年温哥华冬奥会。
