Performing to “Midnight Blues” by Gary Moore, Pang/Tong produced a high triple twist, a throw triple loop and earned a level four for their death spiral, spiral sequence, the hand-to-hip lift and the two spins. However, Pang doubled the opening side by side triple toeloop and the side by side spin at the very end of the program was out of unison. The reigning Four Continents Champions received 65.60 points (36.36 element score/29.24 program component score). “It was not perfect today and we hope to do better tomorrow”, Pang said. “I was hesitating on the toeloop. The ice surface is more narrow and I hadn’t quite adjusted to that”, she explained when asked about the error. “Some of our elements were good today, but we made two mistakes”, admitted Tong.
Zhang/Zhang started strongly into their program to “Riding on the Wings of Songs” by Felix Mendelssohn with a big triple twist and a throw triple loop, but then Dan Zhang singled the side by side Salchow. The World and Grand Prix Final silver medalists recovered to complete strong spins, spirals and a lift that were all graded a level four by the Technical Panel. |
