I've finished reading the book!It took me about 3 hours to finish it, but I guess it was because I was a little bit over-excited due to the SOI show, and because too busy to look at those cute pictures over and over.
His book, well, lots of , I would say....
As he said before, it is very candid, and as you know Alexei, it is just like himself, nothing to hide, and nothing to ashamed. Very honest and very heart-warming, especially when he talks about his mother. He also talks about his father a bit. Of course he mentions about his coaches, his fellow skaters, and so on. He even talks about his run-away nights from Tatiana.I found out that the person he shared the room with in the Olympic Village at SLC was Marinin.
No need to say, there are a lot of pictures from his childhood, off-ice shots, on-ice pictures from the competitions, shows and so on. There is one particular picture I really like, and that is which Alexei was standing in his kitchen and cooking! In those off-ice pictures, he looks very relaxed, and very charming and I guess I don't need to say this since you guys know it very very well.
Hope I can bring up more ditails when I get home. Yes, I'm in a hotel in Tokyo, and heading to the SOI show now.

I still do not have the book (sob), but to tease your curiosity, I can list the chapter headings that I heard:
Chapter I Childhood
Chapter II The collapse of Soviet Union
Chapter III Making debut at the senior level
Chapter IV Gaining the World title
Chapter V From Russia to America
Chapter VI Dismissed from the tour
Chapter VII Major setback
Chapter VIII Gladiator
Chapter IX Feeling at a loss
Chapter X Olympic Games and...
I am not a literary but a number person, so I am not sure if the choice of these words in English is the best one, but I hope that it helps you to imagine what is written.
In a way, it is interesting to see that these subtitles do not emphasize on brighter side of his skate life - such things we often hear as the four times Worlds champion, the Olympic champion, etc.
This is not a book to simply describe a success story of a super skater. Rather, this seems to be a story about a man who went through lots of struggles and hardships, and yet with his will power, effort, talent and support from those who are close to him, who eventually achieved what he had longed for. At least that is the impression by my friends who read it - it is a story that vividly depicts the human side of an Olympic champion. Thus the title "Overcome" is very suitable for this book.
I am wondering if these subtitles are named by him or with the suggestions of the publisher. Japanese people truly love the come-back story (maybe this is not just us), and those who read the book have been moved very much by what he had to tell...
